MotherS Love Essays - Two Kinds, Girl, The Joy Luck Club
Mother'S Love Children and Families A mother's love for her children is supposed to be something that never dies. The problem is, this ?love? can be expressed in many ways. Sometimes, the love is shown in such a way that there is no doubt that this woman would do anything for her offspring. Sometime, this love can be viewed, as a way that that the mother is trying to mold her daughter into what she believes is the ?right? way to behave. Other times, the mother is trying her best to make sure that her child is doing HER best. These three types of ?love? are expressed in the three short stories ?Girl,? ?Gravity,? and ?Two Kinds.? The mother in ?Girl? is portrayed as an overbearing monster. For some unknown reason, she has given her daughter many guidelines by which she has to live by. The reason may be that the mother was a rebel in her childhood. It could be that the mother has a vision of what her daughter is to be like. The reason is unknown. But what is known is that this mother won't take anything less than what she thinks a lady should be like. To the knowledge of the reader, the child has done nothing wrong to have to receive this reprimanding. The most demeaning section of the tirade is when the mother says ` so to prevent you from becoming the slut you are so bent on becoming.'? (Kincaid 13) This mother, for whatever reason it may be, has the idea that her daughter, who she is SUPPOSED to love with all her heart, has her young mind set on becoming a slut. Every time the daughter tried to throw in a comment, it goes all for naught. The mother does not even respond to the comment that her child says. The problem is this story might have been resolved; it might have not been resolved. No one will know. But, the odds are that if the mother will act like this now, there are no signs of her changing anytime in the near future. The daughter in this story has to live with the reality that her mother has a mindset of what a woman is. Unfortunately, it appears to be virtually impossible to fill the mold that her mother has for her. In ?Gravity,? the mother has been put into an awful situation. Her son, who seems to be about 30 years old, has the AIDS virus. He has grown weak and feeble. He basically relies on his mother for all his needs. This mother is portrayed as a mother that will (and unfortunately has to) do anything for her son. Even when he was a little child who could not see, his mother lent him her glasses so he could see ?Fiddler on the Roof.? She did this with full knowledge that she would be forced to squint for the entire showing. The mother herself has her own sicknesses, which she has to deal with. But, even still, she puts her son's well - being before hers? just like she has when he was a little child who couldn't see. The mother not only does things to help her son physically, she does things to help him emotionally. When she and her son are in a shop purchasing a gift bowl, she tossed the $500 glass bowl to her feeble son. To the surprise of her son and everyone else in the store, he held on. Theo, the son, was overwhelmed with joy that he didn't see a pile of glass in front of his feet. As good as a mother as she is, she does have some flaws. First, she somewhat gives the impression that she has been annoyed with the situation. She also feels that people are always looking down on them. Eventually, it is assumed that the son will pass away. To this day, no cure for AIDS has been found. No matter what, Theo, has always known, and always will know, that his mother would have moved the world to see him with a smile on his face. After all, she had been doing whatever it took to make him happy

Internal and External Analysis of Apple Inc. Essays - Steve Jobs
Internal and External Analysis of Apple Inc. Essays - Steve Jobs Internal and External Analysis of Apple Inc. Introduction Apple Inc., is a multinational company that is known for its expertise in consumer electronics industry. Over the years, Apple has immensely grown to provide its customers with personal computers, cell phones, and computer software. Ever since Apple Inc., was established, it has operated in many different industries. From Personal Computing to Desktop publishing industry and to current consumer electronics industry, Apple has established itself has one of the most diversified companies. "Apple's 15 product lines were slashed to just four categories - desktop and portable Macintoshes, for consumers and professionals" (pg. 3). As a result, the attractiveness of the overall industry will be determined by industry analysis, generic strategy and internal analysis. Industry Analysis Threat of New Entrants Although in the past, there were many competitors (such as IBM and Dell) in the industry, the threat of new entrant was possibly medium to low. This is because, in compa rison to other industries, the electronic indus try required extremely hig h capital investments mostly to support R . Over the years, companies like Apple has improved its supp ly chain, which has led to difficulty for new entrants to compete in the market . Bargaining Power of Suppliers According to the past market conditions of electronics industry, the bargai ning power of suppliers was low . Suppliers of electronic industry are once that supply components for phones, and Intel's chips for Apple laptops. As most of the electronics consist of similar hardware, this enables switching cost to be low; as a result bargaining power of suppliers is low as well. As the case specifies "Apple uses vertical integration where as other suppliers uses open system" (p. 2). This implies that in Apple could use its other long term contracts to produce needed components. Bargaining Power of Buyers Based on the electronics industry, it can be said that bargaining power of buyers is high. This is because, the price of the products had been extremely sensitive due to which buyers would switch to a different company with similar product. The buyers in this industries are retailers such as Wal-Mart, and Best Buy. For a company like Apple (who has maintained consistency in their pricing of each product), mid income consumers would not want to spend extra on something that is already being offered by another company with lower price. Threat of Substitutes Threat of substitutes in the e lectronic industry is medium to low. As technology started to advance, customers feel more attracted towards new inventions of technology. There are very few who woul d prefer books, and newspapers. In other words, people would rather prefer to use their phones to read a book rather than buying an actual book from the book store. When Apple was established there were certain items already available in the market (such as VCR's, DVD's, and regular telephones). As threat of substitutes starts to increase (which is the present situation), Apple's profit starts to decrease Rivalry among Competitors The intensity of rivalry among competitors is extremely high in the consumer electronics industry. Major competition comes from companies like Apple, IBM, Dell, HP and Samsung. Not only that "Online music stores such as Amazon.com, Napster, and Walmart.com offered individual song downloads at competitive or discounted prices to iTunes. Most competitors offered songs to play on various devices including iPod" (p.9). As competitors were coming up with identical products at lower cost, demands for iPods was decreasing. As a result, Apple did not have a competitive advantage anymore. Generic Strategy Over the past years, Apple Inc., has focused on many different generic strategies. These include: premium-price differentiation strategy by Gilbert Amelio, and low cost strategy of John Sculley. Overall, Apple Inc. followed a focused differentiation strategy. "Focused differentiation strategies are keyed to offering carefully designed products or services to appeal to the unique preferences and needs of a narrow well-defined group of buyers" ( Mortez, Ak bari, Hossein-Nejad, p. 108). Apple Inc., is a company that does not sell its products for lower price that its competitors. As a result, its innovative products have been targeted towards customers with high earnings. When Apple launched iPod, many

Explanation and Examples of Wo and Da in German
Explanation and Examples of Wo and Da in German One of the things that can make translating other languages difficult for many is that the rules of grammar change with each language. Knowing the correct word order can be difficult if you dont understand the rules o the language youre learning. In English, adverbs usually come after prepositions but in German, it is the opposite. The adverbs wo and da coupled with prepositions become helpful tools in day-to-day German conversation. By themselves, wo means where and da means there, but by adding prepositions, it changes their whole meaning. Its important that people learning German understand how prepositions can alter these common words if they want to be understood. Wo Preposition Wo preposition is useful when asking questions for clarification such as in Worauf wartet er? (What is he waiting for?) Notice that the translation for worauf is for what- not a literal translation. Thats because many of the wo prepositions replace the colloquial, but incorrect German word combination preposition was. (incorrect - Fà ¼r was ist das?, correct - Wofà ¼r ist das?) Since the incorrect German version of preposition was most closely resembles the English translation, English speakers find it difficult to overcome this natural tendency of question formation. Thats why it is important that English-speaking students of German learn early on to incorporate the use of ââ¬â¹wo-words in their conversation. Da Preposition Similarly, the da preposition combinations cannot always be translated literally. It all depends on context. Sometimes da will keep its there meaning if it refers to a location. At other times the word means something closer to the English that. Understanding this difference is important for students of German who want to make sure their speech is grammatically correct even if their meaning is still understood. For example: Was kommt daraus? (What is coming out from there?) Was konntest du daraus feststellen? (What were you able to determine from that?) Da- words are very useful so as to not sound redundant. For example, if someone were to ask you Bist du mit diesem Zeitplan einverstanden? The shorter response would be Ich bin damit einverstanden, instead of reiterating the noun. Examples of Wo and Da Use Below you will find a list of some common wo- and da- compounds. Take note that if the preposition starts with a vowel then it will be preceded by an ââ¬âr- when combining it with either wo or da. ( unter - darunter) bei by - wobei ââ¬â dabeidurch through - wodurch ââ¬â dadurchfà ¼r for - wofà ¼r ââ¬â dafà ¼rgegen against - wogegen - dagegenher (prefix) coming from - woher ââ¬â daherhin (prefix) going to - wohin ââ¬â dahinmit with - womit ââ¬â damitnach after - wonach ââ¬â danachan on, at, to - woran ââ¬â daranauf on - worauf ââ¬â daraufaus out of, from - woraus ââ¬â darausin in - worin ââ¬â darinà ¼ber over, above - worà ¼ber ââ¬â darà ¼berunter under, underneath - worunter ââ¬â daruntervon from - wovon ââ¬â davonvor before, in front of - wovor ââ¬â davorzu to, at - wozu ââ¬â dazu

It isnt worth the trouble evaluating training; Go ahead and assign me Assignment
It isnt worth the trouble evaluating training; Go ahead and assign me to a control group - Assignment Example They are not enthusiastic about their job. This lack of motivation is demonstrated through negative reaction after the training. The employees show pessimism. This indicates unsettled issues. Some employees attend the training but fail to learn for the simple reason that they did not understand the skills, principals and the facts the trainer wanted them to, (DeSimone & Werner 2008). The behavior of the employees reveals that they never had any intention to change in the first place, (McLean & 2010). All this culminates to poor results even after heavy investments in training programs. This happens when organizations ignore vital aspects about the employeesââ¬â¢ welfare. Most of these aspects cannot be addressed in training sessions. In some organizations, the leadership receives an extremely high salary while the ordinary workers receive extremely small salaries, (McLean & 2010). This difference causes an immense deal of the inequality, which kills motivation among workers. My or ganization evaluates training through a results oriented model. Improved results reveal that training was well received and understood. This includes improved turnovers and timely achievements of the targets, (DeSimone & Werner 2008). The use of structured control and experimental groups is a model for evaluating the impact of training, (McLean & 2010). It is in order to train some workers and leave others without training. The group that receives training is referred to as the experimental group while the group that goes without training is called a control group, (DeSimone & Werner 2008). The composition of these groups is quite random and, therefore similar. Then the relevant indicators of success are taken from both groups before and after the training, (McLean & 2010). If the experimental group performs better them the training was successful. The assumption here is that if the training is considered successful, the organizations can in future a

H.W 8 GSC125-01 - Essay Example Answer: Coriolis Effect reverses direction between the hemispheres so that the large scale winds in the Southern Hemisphere swerve to the left rather than to the left. This reversal is related to the difference in an observerââ¬â¢s sense of earthââ¬â¢s rotation in the two hemispheres. To an observer looking down from high above the North Pole, the planet rotates counterclockwise, whereas to an observer high above the South Pole, the planet rotates clockwise. For the observer measuring motion relative to a coordinate system anchored to the rotating Earth, this reversal in the apparent direction of rotation between the two hemispheres translates into a reversal in the direction of the Coriolis Effect. Answer: The counterclockwise and inward spiral of cyclone in Northern hemisphere converge surface winds towards the center of the low. Air ascends in response to converging surface winds and diverging winds aloft. The adiabatic expansion of ascending air within a cyclone lowers the temperature and saturation vapor pressure, thereby increasing the relative humidity of unsaturated air. Clouds and precipitation may eventually develop, so that cyclones are typically stormy weather

Spiritual Healing :: essays research papers fc
An Exploration of Spiritual Healing à à à à à Throughout time, mankind has constantly been seeking ways to maintain their health and to cure those that had not been so fortunate in that task. Just about everything has been experimented with as a cure for some type of illness; whether physical or mental. There is also a third type of illness that can and is addressed, which is healing on the spiritual plan. According to research, most of the spiritual healers are concentrated in primitive societies and undeveloped areas of the world. However, there are still undertones of reliance on spiritual healing in modern medicine today and there are some in civilized, well developed parts of the world that have rejected modern medicine all together and adopted alternative healing methods. Even a person who does not believe in a higher being actually takes part in this type cure simply by allowing the chemical medicines in his/her body to mend what is wrong. No matter what class of society a person is in, no matter how a dvanced that particular country is, there will always be traces of spiritual healing if not all-out practicing of it; and it is and will continue to be a significant part of any healing process, large or small. à à à à à There are numerous names for spiritual healers, but for simplicityââ¬â¢s sake and the fact that the concentration is on American Indian Medicine, all spiritual healers will be lumped together as ââ¬ËShamanââ¬â¢ unless otherwise specified. This does not mean that all healers will hold the same beliefs, or that a particular belief is not even held by a group known as Shamans, but rather a different type of healer. The grouping is just so that a detailed and confusing explaination of all the subsections of healers. If necessary, there will be specifications. Again , for clarification, definitions are provided to clear up any confusion. A Shaman is a person anchored securely in both the physical world and the spiritual realm-- a mediator if you will(Shamanism 1). Therefore, Shamanism is a way of life revolving around interaction of the spiritual and physical worlds(Shamanism). The Shaman does not solely exist as other humans do; they lead a totally different life in conjunction with their earthly duties within their tribe. The two are not separate by any means; one has direct impact on the other, or so it is believed by those who study this form of healing.

Food Intake
| 3 Day Food Intake| Nutrition| | Moneka Goff| 3/4/2013| Jessica Marshal SCI/220 | Food IntakeA well balanced diet plays a major role in attaining a long healthy life the major nutrients for the body are protein, carbohydrate, and fats these nutrients provide the body with energy for various functions such as heart, health, and activity of the brain , and muscle health one must choose foods from each foods groups to achieve a balanced diet everyday eating the right amount of fruits and vegetables will ensure that the right amount of nutrients all healthy diets should have a few things in common such as vitamins, minerals, and fiber and protein intake.Over the past 3 days I recorded my intake of protein, carbohydrates, and lipids. I think I ate a balanced diet for these 3 days. Most of the foods I ate provided protein each day such as the black eyed peas, shrimp gumbo, fried chicken, beef steak, and eggs. I received carbohydrate from rice, grits, potatoes, and bread. I received lipids from black eyed peas, shrimp gumbo, Reese peanut butter cups, and ham steaks. Most of the food I ate these 3 days contained the recommended amounts of protein. My daily recommended daily intake was below the recommended range for two of the 3 days I recorded my meals for these days. For example, on day 2 I achieved the recommended protein but on Friday and Sunday I didnââ¬â¢t achieve what I needed. That is because I either did not finish the meal or it took me longer than usual to eat the meal. My recommended protein intake should be between 62-218 gram, achieved 73 grams on each day. I did not receive the recommended daily intake of carbohydrate for these 3 days. My recommended carbohydrate intake should be 281-405 grams but I received 242grams on each day. My lipid in take varied from day to day. Some days I did not finish the whole meal.I was surprised to find out that I was getting the recommended amount of nutrients for these days because I normally eat once a day. Are the t hree main nutrients that oneââ¬â¢s body need to strive. Macro nutrient is important for the growth and development of the body. Macro nutrient needs to be consumed at each meal. My macro nutrient intake was within normal recommended range for these 3 days. Macronutrients included carbohydrate, dietary fats, and protein. One must consume the right amount of all the nutrients. It is harmful, to consume too little for these nutrients.Protein is important to have in any diet because it helps to maintain energy levels. Proteins assist in the production of antibodies, enzymes, and hormones. Eating too little protein can lead to dehydration, increased fat storage, and kidney stories. Carbohydrate is important for my energy level. Carbohydrates are important for its glucose properties. Glucose is important to help build muscles in the body. Without carbohydrates the body will have muscle tissue depletion because the body cannot regain glucose that is used for energy. Lipids or dietary fa ts are also important for the body.According to the US government guidelines, fats should constitute 30% of a personââ¬â¢s daily calorie intake. Lipids are important for energy levels, metabolism, and glycemic system. Fiber is important to the digestive system and can help an individual to fell full longer or curb oneââ¬â¢s appetite. Fiber can also be associated with lowering the risk of certain cancers such as colorectal cancer and other gastrointestinal cancers. My fiber in take did not meet the recommended range that I need daily. According to WebMD, women need 25 grams of fiber daily, my intake varied day to day but it was still below recommended range. On Friday, I only received 7 grams of fiber for the whole day. It is recommended that since I have not received the recommended daily fiber in take t should gradually increase my fiber intake to avoid diarrhea. My food intake did not meet the minimum number of servings of food that contain fiber. According to the CDC, fruits and vegetables are on excellent source of fiber. Fruits and vegetables are critical to good health and should be consumed at each meal. Most of the food I for these 3 days provided me with some type of fiber. My diet is not the best diet for losing weight or maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Some days I tend to miss meals or not eat anything at all. When I finally do eat I omit certain foods because I am always on the go. I understand that I need to consume all five food groups daily but I may only consume two of the recommended food groups a day. I need to change my diet to include every food group and meet my recommended daily calorie intake. Most days I only consume less than 1300 calories for a day. I will try to eat more leafy greens vegetables and fresh fruits to boost my fiber intake. My meals do not include beans or peas daily but I do try to eat them at least twice a week.If I switch from fruit juice to fresh fruit I will intake a better quality of vitamins and minerals. Fru it juice contains more sugars than fresh fruit. By consuming insufficient or excessive amounts of proteins, carbohydrate, fats, or fiber can limit the bodyââ¬â¢s immunity and bodyââ¬â¢s ability to rebuild itself. It can cause one to have bowel problems, infections, and decreases oneââ¬â¢s ability to think and remember things.
